The town of Palau, stands on a gentle slope that juts out into the sea, between the promontory of Punta Sardegna Capo d’Orso to the west and to the east.

It ‘s the point of connection with the island of La Maddalena. In the eighteenth century. the coastline assumed an important role in key defensive Palau, like La Maddalena and Caprera, became one of many “guards” deployed for the protection of the Strait of Bonifacio. Numerous fortifications were erected at strategic points, among which are particularly beautiful and impressive to Altura and Capo d’Orso.

From Barrage you can ‘see the whole territory of Palau, both towards the sea as well as inland. From Monte Altura it ranges over the Archipelago and on the west to Punta Falcone, near Santa Teresa Gallura.
